As Macedonia draws closer to the European Union, political consensus becomes more important, Pierre Mirel, Director in the European Commission's Directorate-General for Enlargement, told Dnevnik.

"Even during the mandate of the previous Government there were moments when there was no political consensus and, if I remember well, some parties even boycotted the Parliament. We have a similar situation now. But as the country nears the possibility of receiving a date for start of the negotiations for membership, this problem becomes more important. Thus, all political parties have the responsibility to be committed to such dialogue. With this they will be committed to their country, seeing as they are responsible for the country's future," Mirel said.
