Ms. Rice - Mr. Milososki

The U.S. Administration's support for the statutory act on enlargement of NATO "does not represent support for the temporary reference used for Macedonia in the United Nations", U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice stressed in her letter to Macedonian Foreign Minister Antonio Milososki.

"As you know, our Administration's policy since year 2004 has been to recognize Macedonia under its constitutional name - Republic of Macedonia. We stressed this policy publicly within the context of this statutory act. We continue to support the process for resolution of this issue in the UN, and we hope that the absence of a mutually acceptable resolution for this issue will not impede Macedonia's progress toward membership in NATO," Rice stressed in her letter to Milososki.
