Crvenkovski in ZagrebUS Deputy Secretary of State Nicholas Burns drew a distinction among the Adriatic Group countries that aspire to enter NATO at last week's Summit of the Southeastern European countries in Zagreb. Burns said that Croatia is the only country from this group that deserves membership in NATO, while Macedonia and Albania have a lot of work to do. The US official conveyed this same position to Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski.

The Macedonian president recalled that Macedonia was at the same level as Croatia and a step ahead of Albania until a few months ago. "While we wasted precious time on a barren political dialogue, Croatia worked. But everything depends on us and the next few months will be key," Crvenkovski said.
