Srgjan Kerim, President

Srgjan Kerim, former Macedonian minister of foreign affairs, was elected President of the 62nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly at the UN HQ in New York on Thursday.

Kerim's election was confirmed by the representatives of 192 countries at the session of the UN General Assembly.

In his address after taking over from the previous President of the UN General Assembly, Sheikha Haya Rashed Al Khalifa, Kerim said that the main challenge in his one-year mandate would be promotion of effective multiculturalism in whose centre would be the UN, global warming, combat against terrorism, reform of the UN Security Council..., state-run MIA's correspondent from New York reported.

MFA Antonio Milososki attended the official election session too. Although being unusual for him to attend the election of the President of the UN General Assembly, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon addressed the session and welcomed Srgjan Kerim's appointment.
