One of the most influential Greek dailies Kathimerini called on the political parties in Greece to be braver and admit that Greece's chances of imposing a new name for Macedonia are small, A1 Television reported yesterday. The editorial titled "Alliances are needed for key issues" states that certain issues like the name issue cannot be resolved without an agreement among the big parties. A1 Television emphasizes that Kathimerini is the strongest media supporter of the Greek Government led by New Democracy of Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis.
The English edition of this daily states, "Greece should not hope for a resolution of the name dispute with neighboring FYROM, considering that the whole international community and the world media recognize this country as Republic of Macedonia, despite Athens's remarks that this name implies territorial aspirations".
MIC analysts say that, with this, Kathimerini reaffirmed the position of former Greek Ambassador to Macedonia Theodora Grosomanidou, who gave a similar statement for The Financial Times.
