PM Nikola Gruevski

Change of Macedonia's constitutional name at the insistence of Greece is too high a price for our big priority, membership in NATO. This is absolutely unacceptable for us, even at the cost of NATO, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski stressed in the interview for state news agency MIA.

"We are prepared to talk with Greece, to continue the talks, and to look for a resolution for this problem, but we are not prepared to accept such high price. We believe that Greece will create a big problem for the whole region if it blocks the Republic of Macedonia's accession to NATO, especially in these crucial moments when the Kosovo issue is being resolved, when there is a lot of tension in the region, when a message needs to be sent to all radical groups in the region, and when the other countries need to be encouraged. We must not allow the bilateral problems between Greece and Macedonia to be put before the interests of NATO and the interests of the whole region, to the advantage of the radical groups in the Balkans," Gruevski said.
