The lustration will pertain to the period starting from 2 August year 1944 and ending with the day the lustration law is ratified. Most probably this will be the final proposal of Liberal Party leader and parliamentarian Stojan Andov, who proposed the text of the lustration bill.
The parliamentarians established, with a consensus, that a lustration law is needed. The Government submitted an amendment towards the end of May this year, requesting that the lustration law apply to all acts committed until 5 July year 2000. This resulted in the opposition withdrawing its support for the lustration law, with the explanation that the Government wants to absolve thecollaborators of the secret services who are now in power.
