EU Ambassador to Macedonia Erwan Fouere denied that the European Union promotes double standards, following the EU’s announcements on liberalization of the visa regime with Serbia and a candidate status for the country, without insisting on the strict criteria that applied to Macedonia.
“There are no double standards for Macedonia and the other countries. That which was offered to Serbia, was also offered to the other Balkan countries within the frames of the negotiations. The negotiations on liberalization of the visa regime with Macedonia will start very soon, but I cannot say precisely when,” Fouere said yesterday.
