NULAND MOST PROBABLY WILL BE U.S. MEDIATOR IN TALKS ON NAME DISPUTE

U.S. Ambassador to NATO Victoria Nuland most probably will be the new mediator in the talks on the name dispute between Macedonia and Greece. However, this information has not been confirmed yet, Dnevnik reports. The talks on the name will remain under the auspices of the United Nations and the U.S. ambassador will only assist the process, which UN mediator Mathew Nimetz has led since the start.

Diplomatic sources stated that this is the last attempt of the United States to help resolve the name dispute. The aim is for Macedonia to move past the double formula and for Greece to accept this compromise. These diplomats noted that the United States would exert pressure on both sides for this dispute to be resolved by the NATO Summit in Bucharest in April, so that all three Adriatic Group countries – Macedonia, Croatia, and Albania – could enter NATO.
