The State Election Commission (SEC) said that by 17.00 hrs 45.90 percent of the electorate in all electoral units went to the polls. In 2006 by 17.00 hrs the turnout was slightly smaller, 42.6 percent. SEC President Jovan Josifovski said at a press conference the situation in the crisis polling station was calming down and that currently only 2 polling stations were closed. At 14.00 hrs voting was suspended at 20 polling stations. He said he hoped that nevertheless the whole election process would end well, because in most of the country voting was carried out in a peaceful and democratic atmosphere.

The representatives of SEC admitted that at the polling station in Poroj village where they went to investigate the situation on prior reports that ballot boxes had been stuffed they remained for longer than expected for security reasons.
