“Holding of fair and democratic elections remains the ninth benchmark that Macedonia has to fulfill to be given a date for start of the negotiations for membership,” EU Commissioner for Enlargement Olli Rehn said following the meeting with Macedonian Foreign Minister Antonio Milososki in Brussels yesterday. Rehn stressed that the European Commission is carefully following the situation in Macedonia and it expects the preventive measures of the state institutions and the investigation of the election incidents to give results.
