NAME - CENTRAL TOPIC OF NEW YORK TALKS

Mediator Matthew Nimetz did not produce a new name proposal at the last round of talks in New York. He only proposed new ideas that the Macedonian leadership will consider before assuming a joint position.

"The central issue is the name, although a lot of issues between the two countries are related to it. Some are long- and some are short-term, but I believe that both sides agree that the core of the problem is the name. Therefore the resolution of the main issue, the name, will lead to resolution of those issues as well," Mr. Nimetz said.
