The U.S. Embassy denies the existence of a secret U.S.-Greek agreement on resolving of the name dispute, which was revealed by analyst Sam Vaknin a few days ago. “The United States of America wants to see a resolution for the name dispute as soon as possible, because this is in the best interest of both countries and the region as a whole,” the U.S. Embassy in Skopje stated.

Even though the statement does not directly negate the existence of “a secret agreement”, it stresses, “all reports that the United States had assumed a different course are not based on facts”. “The United States continues to support the UN’s negotiating efforts, which are lead by Ambassador Matthew Nimetz, and it wants to see a resolution for the name dispute as soon as possible,” the Embassy stated following the reports that the United States and Greece are preparing a secret plan that allegedly will be presented to the Macedonian and Greek foreign ministers on 23 September and to the UN General Assembly on 24 September.
