admin1 – September 12, 2008 – 2:31pm

UN Independent Expert on Minority Issues Gay McDougall will visit Greece where she will meet with representatives of various ethnic groups. She will include the Greek regions Trachia and Macedonia in her visit, especially the region around the town of Florina. McDougall will examine the problems faced by the minorities that are not recognized by the Greek Government.

The Greek media, which criticized McDougall during her last visit to Greece, reported that she would meet with representatives of the Macedonian, Turkish, and Romany minorities. Following this visit, the UN representative intends to prepare a report on the rights of the minorities in Greece, which will be released in year 2009.
