An EU delegation led by Pierre Mirel, director for the Western Balkans in the European Commission’s Enlargement Directorate General, arrived in Skopje to present to the Macedonian Government the EU’s remarks as regards the progress and standstill in the fulfillment of the political, economic, and other criteria. Utrinski Vesnik has learned that the EU’s key message would be that “the progress in the eight key benchmarks from the Accession Partnership was disrupted by the political disagreements and the early parliamentary elections”. The daily notes that, although so far official Brussels has minimized the name dispute with Greece as one ofthe criteria for Macedonia’s accession to the EU, this time the EU delegation would call for preservation of the good neighborly relations and it will stress that the talks on the name and finding a mutually acceptable resolution with Greece remain key elements.
