Greece’s position is unacceptable, considering that there is an accord that states that the name issue is not an obstacle to Macedonia becoming a member of international organizations. EU and NATO must try to exert pressure on Greece so that a compromise is reached, Angelika Beer, German EU parliamentarian from the Green Party, stated following her meeting with Macedonian parliamentarians, members of the National Council for EU Integration, in Skopje on Wednesday.
Beer stressed that the Macedonians should be assured that they would remain Macedonians. She assessed that the debate on the name issue in the EU Parliament should simmer down.
