President Crvenkovski's parliamentary address

With the mistakes that it is making, the Government is tracing the road to big historic defeat of the country as regards integration in NATO and EU and it is stifling democracy, Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski assessed yesterday in his annual address before the Assembly - his last address as president of the state. He accused the Government of distancing the country from Euro-Atlantic integration with its populist policy and of not knowing how to deal with the effects of the world economic crisis.

President Crvenkovski once again spoke in a half-empty assembly hall. Even though Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, BDI leader Ali Ahmeti, and PDSH Chairman Menduh Thaci were not in the Assembly yesterday, for the first time Crvenkovski’s address was attended by representatives of all political parties.
