According to the Heritage Foundation/Wall Street Journal Index of Economic Freedom, Macedonia is ranked 33rd in the region consisting of 43 countries and 78th on a global scale where a total of 179 countries have been analyzed.
"Macedonia has a high degree of trade, fiscal and monetary freedom. The personal income tax and corporate income tax are very competitive and monetary stability is comparatively well kept. However, there is not enough institutional capacity for protection of ownership. Ownership is not safe, especially in comparison with the other European countries, largely because of the justice system, corruption, and political interference," the analysis says.
