- Macedonia has ten times more troops than Greece in the NATO peacekeeping missions around the world. From 2003 to 2009 Macedonian citizens as taxpayers paid a total of 34 million euros for the Macedonian Army's peacekeeping missions abroad. This is the price that Macedonia paid to be extended a "conditioned" invitation for joining NATO, additionally burdened with a requirement of having the name issue with Greece resolved first.
