AVOIDING GREEK VETO WITH NAME ISSUE RESOLUTION GUARANTEE

Macedonia may avoid the Greek veto at the EU in December provided it signs a guarantee that it is ready to resolve the name issue over a certain period of time, diplomatic sources assess.

According to the same sources, Nova Makedonija says, only with such a guarantee Macedonia may convince Athens not to block the start of its EU accession talks. Otherwise, it is very probable for Macedonia to be extended a conditioned invitation for starting talks.

According to the sources of Nova Makedonija, this means that the date for starting talks would be defined when a resolution to the name issue is found. The sources say the Government is not ready at this moment to offer such a guarantee.
