Macedonia is expected to be granted the status of a candidate country for full-fledged membership at the 2-day EU summit starting today, foreign news agencies report.
Deutsche Welle, invoking diplomatic sources, reports that in the draft conclusions to be adopted at the summit, it is said that Macedonia will be granted the status of a candidate country for EU membership, without a precise date for starting accession talks though.
The draft conclusions praise Macedonia's progress. On the other hand, they argue that in the next rounds of expansion the Union's capacity to admit new members will have to be taken into account.
