MACEDONIA STAYS OUT OF CONCLUSIONS OF EU COUNCIL MEETING

Macedonia is not in the conclusions of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the European Union. No minister of foreign affairs mentioned the country in the official part of the meeting, television Kanal 5 reports.

Even though it was announced, neither Slovenia raised the Macedonian issue nor did Sweden insist that the conclusion that the date for Macedonia would be discussed by the next presidency be repeated.

Macedonia has not been set a new deadline for resolving the name issue and it seems that the country is being taken off the European agenda, Kanal 5 comments.

The EU High Representatives for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton said after the meeting that Macedonia was briefly discussed. A source from Luxembourg explained that this happened at the ministers’ lunch.

Asked whether it had been concluded that the next presidency should decide the date, Ms. Ashton avoided providing an answer, talking about the name issue.

“We briefly discussed the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia as we promised in December. Important talks are being conducted in this regard. We wish them well and we hope that a solution will be found soon and that the solution will help us move ahead,” she said.
