The demarcation of Macedonia's northern border toward Kosovo must be completed before the establishing of Kosovo's final status, Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski said Tuesday. He welcomed the start of the negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina, which are led with mediation by the international community.

Crvenkovski reminded of the report of special envoy Kai Aide, who recommended that the demarcation of the border be completed before the establishing of Kosovo's status.

"Aide's report was accepted by the UN Security Council and the contact group. Macedonia should insist that this position of the international community is implemented consistently. We should also ensure that this is not minimized by anyone for any reason", the Macedonian president said.

Crvenkovski believes that, in order for this commitment of the Macedonian authorities to be achieved, such an atmosphere should be created in Pristina, and especially in Washington, New York, and Brussels.

Welcoming the start of the negotiations on the future status of Kosovo, President Branko Crvenkovski once again repeated Macedonia's position that the country would accept every resolution that ensues from the negotiations that are led under the auspices of the international community.
