The Government is going to rent roads, rail infrastructure and the two airports - in Skopje and Ohrid - to provide money for the construction of Corridor VIII, said Transport Minister Xhemali Mehazi at the meeting with his counterparts from Italy, Albania and Bulgaria in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, at which they signed the declaration on accelerating the construction of Corridor VIII.

Minister Mehazi said that Macedonia would apply for money from the European institutions with joint projects and that the money for certain routes would be provided by renting highways or railroads.

He explained that a working group was formed in the Ministry that should devise two models of renting built infrastructure and state land along Corridor VIII.

Corridor VIII in Macedonia covers 339 km long railroad and 304 km long highway, parts of which are yet to be built or the construction of which is in progress. A highway of 84 km has so far been built, as 26 km are under construction. Building the remaining 194 km will cost 850 million euros.
