The Vatican expressed support yesterday for Macedonia's membership in NATO and the EU. The Holy See welcomed the Government's measures against corruption and organized crime, the media report. Following yesterday's meeting with the Macedonian state leadership, Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, Vatican secretary for relations with states, expressed conviction that Macedonia's legislation, especially the section that concerns the religious freedoms, would soon be fully synchronized with the European standards. Responding to a journalist question on whether the Vatican supports the Macedonian Orthodox Church (MPC) in the dispute with the Serbian Orthodox Church, Archbishop Mamberti stressed that the Vatican supports the dialogue between the two sisterly Orthodox Churches, noting that maximum respect for both sides should be demonstrated at the talks.
