So that a foreign bank may open up a subsidiary in Macedonia it must deposit 120 million denars into accounts of Macedonia-based banks, and have a license from an authorized supervision body for opening a subsidiary, evidence of adequate supervision of the founder bank, a list of shareholders with qualified share of the bank, as well as information on the identity, education and professional experience of the persons in charge of the subsidiary.

The European Union is dedicated to continuing the enlargement process toward the Western Balkan countries, but Macedonia must complete its homework and fulfill the necessary criteria, Michael Leigh, director-general of the European Commission Department for Enlargement, said yesterday. The US Embassy in Macedonia said yesterday that Washington is not changing its policy as regards Macedonia's constitutional name, stressing that they support the talks that are led under the auspices of the UN in New York. But despite such cemented position of the embassy, disturbing reports are coming from the United States. According to these reports, the Senate's resolution has to be technically harmonized with the resolution that was previously adopted by the House of Representatives, and these two will then be converted into one text, a law that will be signed by the president of the United States.
